Hiya!
So…. at the AGM a couple of weeks ago I was formally made the fundraising officer which is lovely and massive thanks for having me. I’d been doing quite a bit over the last 12 months already so I’m sorry about the radio silence in the last few weeks, I’ve had some big (but lovely) stuff at work to sort out and we’ve had a serious medical stuff for our daughter (all OK for now at least) but just wanted to let you know what’s going on in the background:
a) My mate Justin Moorhouse (Phoenix Nights and Fighting Talk on Radio 5 Live) who performed at our brilliant Comedy Night last autumn, has agreed to come back and do another comedy night for us in the autumn ( 30th October) with his new set which is brilliant because we can sell tickets to members and the wider community so it’s a win in terms of funding and a win in terms of showing people that we’re a force within the community too. Could be great, especially if there’s an election looming. Massive thanks to our member Andy Norton for helping me sort it out and get the room at The Foxlowe for it.
b) The Chairman of The Labour Party Ian Lavery MP is coming on November 29th to do a pie and peas supper and talk with questions event which will also be the launch of Bill Cawley and Richard Benefer’s book about 100 years of the Labour movement in the Moorlands. I’m just trying to finalise the venue and am waiting for a vicar to get back to me. My job is to convince the vicar he’s not being politically biased and also to let us take booze. It might be a tricky one but I’ll try my very best. I love doing the sales pitch hahaha. Wish me luck!
c) Also liaising with Labour member services about the 200 Club which is a bit like a lottery – it’s a fab thing that’s been running for years but I think it’s under the new Member Support person’s remit so they’ll shout about that when it’s sorted.
d) There will be pub nights, music and quizzes too, but bear with me on it. Just got my cynical fundraising hat on so going for the big hits first then I’ll infill the smaller nights afterwards. It’s a bit like drawing a picture and then colouring it in.
In the meantime put those dates in your diaries and watch out for more news……
Taa Xx
Events coming up, with Debbie Price, our new fundraising officer.
