Labour sets out vision for Cheadle High Street.
Cheadle Labour Party have laid out their vision for Cheadle’s High Street in the wake of more local businesses announcing they are closing or moving away from the Town Centre.
Labour’s proposal focuses on making the High Street a more welcoming environment, easier for all to access whilst providing new levels of support for business owners.
Two hours free parking on Tape Street leads the initiatives, alongside a “Plastic Free Cheadle” scheme aimed at reducing single use plastics in the town and a wide-scale refresh operation designed to bring benches, bins, signs and much more back up to standard.
Speaking on the issue, Labour candidate for Cheadle South East Adam Drane said: “Cheadle’s Town Centre urgently needs support.
“Whilst we welcome the District Council’s bid for national funding for Cheadle, we also believe that there should be a detailed strategy in place that isn’t dependent on whether we secure the grant or not.
“We have a wonderful High Street, but the Council hasn’t done enough to support local businesses – and now we are seeing the result of that.”
A full proposal document has been created and shared online, alongside a video explaining the Labour vision.
